Video Review of Pacific Gold Jerky
Welcome to the Jerky Wrangler! We’re enjoying a day on the trail up here on the Pacific Crest Trail in southern California. Today we have a jerky appropriately called Pacific Gold. This jerky, though, is made by Orberto, and it’s rebranded for Costco. This is the jerky you will find at Costco in the southern California area. This is the garlic, crushed black pepper jerky. It doesn’t have any nitrates in it, there’s no MSG’s, and it’s a different kind of flavor than what we’ve seen around lately. So let’s give this one a shot.
You’ll notice that these, as you can see in the bag, are pretty big pieces of jerky, unlike many other jerkys. This is just due to the type of cuts they’re getting or from how they’re processing it. These are nice, big pieces. It’s a tender jerky, and it’s got a lot of flex to it, but it is a little moist, more than some of your dry jerky, so it can leave just a little bit of a stick on your fingers. It’s a moister dry-style jerky, and there are pieces of pepper on it, and you can see that granulated garlic on there too. So let’s give this a try and see what it tastes like.
It was very tender, and easy to bite into. So if a person has a preference for a tenderer jerky rather than a drier jerky, this would be a really good choice. It was really easy to bite through this jerky. There was no ripping and gnawing needed. Again, that’s a preference thing. I’ve made homemade jerky before where you would have to rip it and gnaw it, but that’s due to the type of cut, the way you prepared and marinated it, and so on. This isn’t that type of jerky.
It definitely has a good flavor. I would give this jerky a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. I think it’s better than your average jerky. Plus, when you get it at a club store, you’re going to get a nice big bag for a really good price per ounce of jerky. So, Pacific Gold scores in at a solid 6. Next time you’re on a trail or a road trip, Pacific Gold can be a nice choice, if you happen to have that in your area.
