Welcome to the Jerky Wrangler! We’re here up on the beautiful Pacific Crest Trail in Southern California. We’re overlooking the desert, the high desert behind us, and you can see a sliver of the Sierra’s up there, with Vegas and a little bit of Nevada that way. It’s a beautiful day today! We brought out today Enjoy brand beef jerky, and this is their Hot variety. It’s very similar in texture and style to their old fashioned peppered, but again this is their hot variety. Let’s give this one a try. Here in this piece, you’ll see again it’s a dry jerky, and not something that’s going to stick on your hands. The difference between this one and their peppered is that there are these nice pieces of red pepper, like what you would get at a pizza house. It has that kind of pepper going on. So, let’s give this one a shot.
Because it is on the drier side, you’re going to have to chew it a little bit more and get those juices on it, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s good, and the more you chew it the flavor is being unleashed each time you roll it around in your mouth. This is a good jerky. It’s the same type of cut of meat as their peppered variety, but it has some heat to it.
I’m finding the more I chew, it’s getting a little bit hotter each time. Not overly so. It’s not overpowering the beef, and I can still taste the soy sauce in it. I can also taste a bit of that hickory smoke flavor, but it really has a nice little bite to it with that little bit of pepper on there. And again, the more I’m chewing it, it’s getting a little bit hotter each time, but that’s good.
So, I’m going to give Enjoy Hot Jerky a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. It’s certainly an excellent jerky, and if you get it at one of your club stores, you can get a large bag like this one for a great price. Overall, this is a good jerky! So next time you hit the trail, maybe the Pacific Crest Trail like this one, you can bring along Enjoy jerky, and I think you’ll like it.
