Welcome to the Jerky Wrangler! We’re here again at the Champion Lodge-pole Pine Tree. It’s over four hundred and forty years old; an amazing tree behind us. We’re here to look at an interesting new jerky. This one is called Fusion Jerky. It’s kind of a unique jerky. I saw this and thought that it looks a lot different than your normal jerky. It doesn’t have any nitrates or preservatives, and that’s obviously a good thing. Let’s go ahead and look at a piece. You can see it has an orange flavor, no doubt from the spices that they put on it. It’s a soft jerky, and looks pretty tender. Because of the spices, a lot of particles seem to come off on your hand. It’s not sticky or wet, but some of the spices and things flake off. Every time you touch it, you’ll have these little pieces on your hand. So keep that in mind.
Let’s go ahead and try this. Wow, I bit into a grisly piece there. That’s unfortunate, but that can happen. You get these veins of fat in there too. That piece had a big chunk in it. Overall, I don’t know if the flavor is really working for me. You can taste the soy sauce, but there is a heavy kind of orange peel flavor behind it. I don’t know if it’s really working for me. I’m going to try another piece in here. Just to try and get one that didn’t have that gristle. That one was a better chew, and a better bite.
Again, it has a lot of spice coming off on my hands. The cut of meat seems better than that first one. That first one just unfortunately had a big ribbon of fat running through it. That happens. So, the meat quality is better than your average jerky, the 5’s, because it is fairly tender and good. But this basil citrus flavor is not really complimenting the meat. It’s not really working too well.
So, based on that flavor, I’m going to have to go with a 4. But, the meat itself is a 6. So it just depends on your flavors. If you like something that’s kind of exotic with citrus flavors, maybe this is really going to be good for you. But for me, I’m going to give it a 4. I’ll look for other varieties from them, with ones that don’t have as much citrus, and different flavors. Take care, and we’ll see you next time on the Jerky Wrangler!
