Welcome to the Jerky Wrangler! Enjoying a beautiful day right here on the exposed tide pools at Crystal Cove State Beach. We thought this would be a nice place to try out this Chef’s Cut Grilled Steak Jerky, and it’s their Chipotle Cracked Red Pepper flavor. So, as with Chef’s Cut reviews in the past, you know that they don’t use nitrates. They use a natural process, and they’re not big into preservatives. In fact, there are no preservatives. This one, we’re going to give it a shot because it’s their Chipotle flavor, so it’s a little different than what we’ve had from them in the past. So, let’s give this one a shot!
What you’ll probably notice is that, very similar with their entire brand, it’s very tender. There is no effort to bite through it. It just literally almost melts in your mouth. There is a very slight grittiness to it, but it’s not at all off-putting. That Chipotle flavor, and that smoky red pepper flavor, is definitely coming through.
Also, there is a prominent soy flavor, which is a big ingredient in this jerky. It’s good! If you like roasted red peppers. It’s not overly hot; it’s not like a really hot jalapeno, and it’s definitely not like a habanero. It does have some heat to it, but it’s under control. It’s not out of control heat.
So, we’re going to give the Chef’s Cut Chipotle Cracked Red Pepper a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. It’s definitely tender and good. What keeps me from giving it, say, an 8, 9, or 10, is that it’s kind of heavy on the soy flavoring. That soy sauce is really the predominant flavor to me, and that draws back a little bit from what it could be. Other than that, it’s a solid 7.
